UK Youth Parliament      26/03/2008

On the 29th of February the young people of Warrington turned out to vote in this years Youth Parliament election. There were 16344 young people (11-18 of age) registered to vote and all-previous voting records where smashed when 8708 young people voted, giving a 53.5% turnout of voters. 12 candidates were nominated to stand for two positions to become part of UK Youth Parliament.

Warrington Youth Service co-ordinated and managed the voting process that accessed young people from the Youth Service, Secondary Schools and Connexions.

The successful elected candidates are Jenny Clarke (William Beamont) and James Giblin (Penketh) and are now the new Members of Youth Parliament and the two supporting deputies George Atkinson (Culcheth) and James Hammond (Bridgewater)

This significant increase in young people voting demonstrates that young people are becoming more involved in democratic decision making and provides a positive platform for the future.
